Punt and Dennis are a comedy double act consisting of Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis.
They came to public attention as one half of The Mary Whitehouse Experience, a comedy show on BBC Radio 1 which then transferred to television. While the other two stars of the series, Rob Newman and David Baddiel became major celebrities - playing to sell out audiences at Wembley Arena [1] - Punt and Dennis never attained the same level of prominence. Their own TV series, The Imaginatively Titled Punt and Dennis Show, did not capture the public imagination as The Mary Whitehouse Experience had, though it won larger audiences and was given a higher profile than the other pairing's spin-off project Newman and Baddiel in Pieces.
Punt and Dennis worked on Jasper Carrott's shows for many years, where they performed short sketches. They also supported him on tour.
In 1992 they went on the road themselves and toured the UK with a show called 'Punt And Dennis - The Milky Milky Tour'. The name of the show was inspired by a character called Mr Strange that Hugh Dennis played in the Mary Whitehouse Experience. The Milky Milky tour was filmed live on stage at Bristol's Hippodrome Theatre in 1992 and released on VHS Video.
They currently have a long running topical comedy series called The Now Show running on BBC Radio 4. Also, a weekly round-up show on Radio 2, It's Been a Bad Week and write a radio sitcom The Party Line.
Punt and Dennis contributed to the BBC topical comedy panel show; Mock The Week. Punt was a writer behind the scenes, while Dennis was a regular alongside Scottish comedian, Frankie Boyle.
In 2007 they performed a UK tour of their comedy called Stuff and Nonsense, in the promotional material of which they termed themselves "The Kings Of Shat-ire."
In 2010 they announced November 2010 preview shows and a new tour for 2011 to run from January - March.
